The Goodness Of God Direct To Us

Galatians 6:18
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brothers and sisters. Amen.

Paul did not hide his message to the churches in Galatia (what is now western Turkey). He was very clear, direct and even strident in his denunciation of the false teachers who were perverting the believers. And yet they were his brothers and sisters. He loved them and was tender-hearted towards them, although he vigorously opposed the lies they had started to believe. He did not want them to be left feeling unloved; but he also wanted them to change to wholeheartedly embrace the truth.

Inside each of us is our spirit. But we are not alone, because the Holy Spirit sent by the Father and the Son is also within us (Romans 8:9). He is the Spirit of truth (John 14:16-17). And so Paul prayed that the Spirit would bring the grace of the Lord Jesus into their hearts: assuring them of salvation, expressing the healing love of God to them, giving them the ability to discern the lies around them and the courage to welcome and obey the truth.

It is only the Lord who can alter our hearts. Only He can enable us to see the truth and reject the lies. Of course, we need the Word of God, and those who encourage us to understand it and live by it; but the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ is His gift which is poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit. Let us look to Him to give His grace and welcome His presence as He unpacks His kindly goodness directly to us.

Prayer
Gracious God. Thank You for the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ by which I am both saved and strengthened to serve You. Forgive me for the times when I have not sought Your grace, preferring my own strength and wisdom to Yours. Please soften my heart to desire Your truth and obey it, in fellowship with my brothers and sisters. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
